Habitat Restoration / Native Planting
Native planting that deepens your garden's beauty and biodiversity — species chosen to thrive in the North Carolina Piedmont, support local wildlife, and ask for less.
We specialize in weaving outdoor spaces back into their local ecosystem. Native trees, shrubs and perennials are chosen because they already know this place — its soil, its seasons, its rainfall — so they establish faster and settle in for the long term.
The Triangle sits in the Piedmont's old oak-hickory country, and a native garden here is really a piece of that forest edge brought back onto a residential lot — oakleaf hydrangea, itea and beautyberry under the canopy, coneflower, mountain mint and little bluestem where the sun reaches. We plant that way in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary, matching the palette to what each site's soil and shade will support.
Beyond their quiet beauty, native species do real work: they feed pollinators, birds and beneficial insects, rebuild soil health, and improve air quality. They ask for less water, less fertilizer and less maintenance than non-native alternatives, and every added planting expands the green cover that helps buffer a changing climate.
Why plant native
- Trees and plants native to the North Carolina Piedmont
- Food and habitat for pollinators, birds and beneficial insects
- Greater biodiversity and year-round seasonal interest
- Lower water, fertilizer and maintenance needs
- Healthier soil and improved air quality
- Natural resilience to local climate, pests and disease
The outcome is a garden that feels rooted rather than imported — one that grows more alive, and more itself, with every season.
What clients say
“I highly recommend Christina King Landscape Design . She combines strong design vision with deep knowledge of plant species, which gave me real choice and confidence in the process. My property presented several challenges—a sloped terrain, the need for privacy from a public path, and a desire for color and year-round interest—and she addressed all of them beautifully. Christina was patient and flexible when I changed my mind about plantings, stayed within budget, and was consistently easy to collaborate with. She and her excellent team completed the work—including installing driveway lighting—while I was away, which spoke to her reliability and professionalism. I’m so pleased with her work that I’ve signed up for her yearly maintenance services. I would not hesitate to recommend her.”
“We have struggled with the front area of our home where the grasses permitted by our HOA would not grow due to trees and lack of sunlight. Christina designed the problem area with plantings that are appropriate to the area and that have thrived.”
