The bones of the garden.
Hardscaping / Patios & Walkways
Stone work that gives a garden its structure.
Hardscape is what a garden is built on. Before a single plant goes in, the paths, patios, steps and walls define how the space is used.
We design hardscape to disappear into the planting rather than compete with it. On Triangle properties — Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary — that means materials chosen for the house and for Piedmont clay and grade, patios and walkways laid out to follow how you actually move through the property, and edges detailed so that stone, gravel and plantings meet cleanly.
What we build
- Paver, bluestone and flagstone patios
- Walkways, garden paths and pea-gravel courtyards
- Stone steps and grade transitions
- Dry-stack and mortared retaining walls
- Outdoor fireplaces, fire pits and seating areas
- Boulder placement and natural stone outcrops
- Edging, drainage and base work built to last
Done well, hardscape is the part of the garden you stop noticing — it simply makes the whole place work.
